Did you forget to seal your cereal properly? Is there a half used bag of noodles in your pantry? You may not be aware of it now, but the ants are coming and they are hungry. Ants are annoying, there’s no doubt about that. They can get into everything and slip through even the smallest of crevices. Sometimes it seems like there is no end to their jurisdiction. They raid your pantry, invade your picnic basket, and their bites can be quite painful. Fire ants are among the most common ants in Queen Creek Arizona, but are one of the most easy to take care of.

If you have a fire ant problem, the first thing to do is to assess whether they have the potential to enter your home or not. If this doesn’t seem likely, then no further action is required. Fire ants can sometimes be useful. They like to feast on other annoying pests that so frequently enter your home, and keeping them around could be helpful. Fire ants prey on flies, roaches, ticks, fleas, and many other insects that no one really wants around. So if your fire ant problem isn’t that crucial, leave them alone is probably your best option. Though, there are time when fire ants must be taken care of so they do not slip through the cracks and raid your pantry.

Another step you must take is to identify the type of ant it is. It could very well be the Red Imported Fire Ant instead of the common Southern Fire Ant. The Red Imported Fire Ant typically has a more painful sting that causes blistering, while the Southern Fire Ant is akin to a bee sting which is not as painful. Another difference is the type of mound. The Southern Fire Ant constructs a far smaller ant hill than that of the Red Imported Fire ant, whose hill can reach up to two feet tall. The Red Imported Fire Ant is also largely far more aggressive than the standard Southern Fire Ant, who tends to mind its own business. These are just a few of the identifying features of the two different fire ants, while also keeping in mind that the Red Imported Fire Ant is not as common in Queen Creek as its counterparts the Southern Fire Ant.

If you are worried about the sudden presence of these ants in your home, there are several things you can do in order to keep them out of your house. If you want them further away from your home, you can use a granule treatment applied directly to their base of operations. They will detect that their home is in danger and they will relocate themselves much further away from your house. To keep them out of your yard entirely, spread a protective layer across your lawn. This will keep them from searching for new breeding grounds in your hard and you will be ant free.

Unfortunately, simple yard treatment does not alway work. These pesky creatures still find their way inside and into the pantry where they have plenty of food for the rest of their lives. Sometimes, simple things like water and sugary foods attract them and beckon them to our homes. Unknown to most people, ants need water to survive, so the presence of it in our homes is an easy way to attract them. Also, if you have left a jar of sugar unsealed and your cereal box opened, this will also get their attention. Ants can slip through small cracks with extreme ease, so simply treating your hard with chemicals is not the most effective way to keep them out.
